The first contingents from the region, including Honduras and the Dominican Republic, have already begin arriving in Panama, said a spokesman for the National Air-Naval Service of Panama. The spokesman went on to explain that, these exercises, organized by the United States Army, rely on the participation of approximately 1,500 troops from the region, including representatives from Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay, among others. Germany will participate in this event as an observer. Panama has been implementing these maneuvers since 2003. Last year, approximately 4,500 troops participated in land, air, and sea exercises. The military training are staged at both the Atlantic and Pacific entrances of the Canal, and foster enhanced inter-communication between the various naval, land, and air forces.
